Amberleigh (Submitted by KZI)
Amberleigh is a quiet, friendly subdivision with about 600 homes. It's approximately 20 years old. Our nearest neighbors are Kingstowne and Springfield. Our children attend Island Creek Elementary School (opened in 2003) and Hayfield Middle/High Schools. The crime rate is very low in Amberleigh. It is a very family-friendly neighborhood. Many families have young children, and trick-or-treating is tremendous fun on Halloween. One "perk" here at Amberleigh is a pedestrian trail that connects our community to the Franconia-Springfield Metro (about a 10-minute walk); a bus also takes you there. The only drawback to Amberleigh is the lack of a swimming pool. (We do have tennis courts, playgrounds, and a basketball court.)

Kingstowne (Submitted by MWG)
Kingstowne is one of the largest "subdivisions" in the DC area, with something like 5,000 residences. It's densely populated though - the vast majority of those residences are townhouses, with a few hundred condos and a hundred or so single-family houses. There's a fairly unobtrusive homeowners' association and the monthly fees are reasonable, especially given what you get for them (common-area maintenance, 2 nice pools, 2 nice fitness centers). 3 Major grocery stores (Giant, Safeway, Shopper's) along one "main drag" plus a good assortment of other shopping including a number of chain and independent restaurants, means pretty much everything you need on a day-to-day basis is right here. Traffic.... well, the traffic isn't ideal given how the area has grown over the past 15 years, but I guess you take the bad with the good! We are close to several Metro stations though!

A great community with a newsletter, community watch and neighborhood activities. Everyone takes a lot of pride in their homes and yards and people are very friendly. Neighborhood pool, nearby schools, playgrounds. We feel very safe and love living here. Fabulous for kids!
