Comments about Arlington - Columbia Pike

Coumbia Heights/Columbia Pike (Submitted by AB)

This neighborhood is so close to DC, yet has a distinct feel of it's own. Some highlights are a movie theater that serves food and drink and has live performances, the Columbia Pike Blues Festival, several great restaurants including Thai, Japanese, and Turkish, drug store, grocery store, bank, and a library. Metrobus runs very frequently, and parking in the residential areas is plentiful. Great place to live!

Ft. Myer area (Submitted by ER)

lived in newer townhome off 2nd street in enclave called Jackson Square - area is ecletic with newer homes, older homes, some office etc - area is definitely on the upswing due to its proximity to DC - with the skyrocketing prices in north arlington, many people find this area an excellent alternative - a lot of teardown activity going on with builders doing picemeal redevelopment - location is SUPERB- travel to DC and National Airport in 10 minutes - Alex Old Town only 20 mins away and the ever developing Ballston metro corridor with all of its'restaurants and shops is only 10 minutes away up wash blvd- also there are big plans to renovate the columbia pike corridor which is just a few blocks to the east- Thomas Jefferson Rec Center is close by and provides a lot of recreational facilities both inside and out

Arlington Heights (Submitted by JTM)

The neighborhood borders are Rt. 50 to the North, Columbia Pike to the South, Glebe Rd to the West, and Filmore/Walter Reed to the East. The neighborhood is comprised of nearly all single family homes built mostly in the 1930's, 40's, and 50's. A few duplexes are in one area and another small cluster of townhouses. Patrick Henry Elementary school and Thomas Jefferson Middle school are located in the neighborhood. T.J. Community Center is also located within the school facilities, which has a health club/gym for Arlington residents to use. Outdoor basketball courts, soccer fields and tennis courts seem to be in use non-stop. A branch of the Arlington county library is also located in the neighborhood. Metro buses serve the neighborhood and provide service to two different Metro stations. Quick access to 395 and Rt. 50. Can easily walk to restaurants, stores, and businesses on nearby Columbia Pike, which is being revitalized by the County so expect more improvements in the coming years. Neighborhood association meets once a month and produces a newsletter as well as hosts a listserv. Bonus: on July 4 can watch the Washington DC fireworks from the neighborhood. Overall, a friendly and walkable neighborhood, which is very close to DC.
