Ballston (Submitted by KJS)
Ballston is a thriving neighborhood in Arlington that has undergone great change over the last 10 years. At Ballston's core are high rise office and apartment buildings, but since the early 2000's new construction has led to a much wider array of social and cultural options.
Within a several mile radius there is an improving shopping mall with a great movie theatre, restaurants serving nearly all types of food, bars of varying themes, a high school with a great running track and numerous public playing fields, a metro station and three Starbuck's!
Ballston's location near route 66 makes it very convenient for Western commutes to Tyson's Corner, Reston or the Dulles area. It is also conveniently located to the other N. Arlington neighborhoods of Clarendon, Courthouse and Rosslyn, as well as Washington, D.C.
The area is full of young professionals and bustling with activity, but given the urban atmosphere and large number of renters can at times not feel overly intimate or friendly. The neighborhood is safe and serious crimes are very rare.
All in all Ballston is a convenient, safe, diverse, young and improving place to live.

Ballston offers all the conveniences of urban living - restaurants, bars, mall, movie theater, dry cleaners, grocery stores, bank, and more. All the amentities are within walking distance. The metro is very convenient, and Route 66 is moments away. The neighborhood is the home to many young professionals. Ours neighbors did not interact much. Parking on the street where all the townhouses are located can be a challenge.

The neighborhood of Ballston is directly on the Metro line. It also has excellent access to Routes 50 and 66 and is close to bus lines, bike trails, and parks. In addition to this, it is an excellent mix of urban and suburban. There are single family homes, connected townhomes, apartment high rises, and everthing in between. There are young families, retirees, students from nearby Marymount and George Mason campuses, and plenty of 25-40 year olds who are single and active. There are movie theaters, shops, and restaurants inside the nearby Ballston mall, as well as plenty of locally owned eateries, bars, and stores as well. I love this neighbhorhood and highly recommend it!

VERY convenient to everyday things like groceries, banks, the library, Metro and night spots. Very accessible for drivers (right off 66, Lee Highway and other major routes) and Metro.
Has an urban feel - there's neighborhood here, but you have to look for it a bit. OTOH, if you're looking for comfort and convenience over "community," Ballston should be on your list.
