South Riding (Submitted by MEH)
We have lived in the South Riding community for over 10 years. We were one of the very first homeowners and have watched the community grow over the years. The schools are phenomenal and even with all the growth, the county has kept up w/ the demand for supporting and building new schools.
The community itself is I believe comparable to none, since the beginning, South Riding Proprietary has sponsored numerous community events, the annual Celebrate South Riding is a 2 day event, with tons of childrens activities, games, rides, music, food and fireworks to end this wonderful event. We also have live bands playing at town hall all summer, we have movies at the pool, a spectacular 4th of July celebration, Spring Egg Hunt for the kids, Halloween parade, Oktoberfest, a bi-annual Community Yard sale/Business Expo as well as a weekly Farmers Market.
The community now has just about everything you need, no need to venture out. We have 2 large grocery stores, dance studio, Martial Arts facilities, restaurants, Starbucks and many more retailers.
I cannot say enough about this wonderful community, my children have had one of the best childhoods imaginable, plenty of friends, excellent schools, fun community events and just a real tight knit feeling of security, a small town feel but with tons of opportunity for all of us!

South Riding (Submitted by J.W.)
We have lived in South Riding for approximately 9 years. It has grown and changed over those 9 years, but overall is a fantastic neighborhood to live in. There is a real community feel here, and you can get involved as much or as little as you like. As far as schools, there are two relatively new elementary schools, a 2 year old middle school nearby, and a brand new high school that was just finished last year. There are plenty of amenities including golf course, tennis, pools, and shopping. The only two missing amenities that come to mind are bike/jogging trails, and a fitness center. The location fine if you work in Reston/Herndon/Chantilly etc. I commuted for 3 years to Washington DC and would not recommend it, unless you have to. Traffic is getting worse by the day, but where isn't it in the DC metro area? Overall I would definitely recommend South Riding to anyone, but especially if you have kids.
