Neighborhood comments from local residents

Sterling Park (Submitted by JDK)

I've lived in Sterling Park for two years, in a location very close to Claude Moore Park. I really have grown to appreciate the neighborhood and everything it offers. The way I describe Sterling Park to friends is as a quiet oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of Northern Virgina. Literally - Sterling Park is amazingly centrally located - in minutes I can be on any of the major Northern Virgina traffic arteries; 7, 28 or 267 - but once I'm home I have a peaceful neighborhood that is more reminiscent of a small city. Claude Moore is a fantastic amenity, great for walking, hiking, or dissapearing into the wilderness. There are a ton of shopping options along Route 7 (5-10 min drive) - virtually every big box store and countless smaller ones, malls, book stores, grocery stores, etc. There's Wegmans (5 mins away off of 28), and the Sterling Town Center. Public school access is also great - with an elementary, middle, and high school within walking distance. Park View High School was highly-ranked in last year's Newsweek survey of the best American high schools. There is a new community center being built on land next to Park View H.S. as well. The sociological mix of the neighborhood is quite eclectic. There are some longtime residents - people who've been there since Sterling Park was first built in the 1970s, but a lot of newcomers as well, and my neighbors are everything from tech mavens to government workers, real estate agents, office workers, and contractors. Everyone is quite friendly and accomodating. I certainly am glad I live in Sterling Park. I love having a plot of land underneath my house that I can do whatever I want with (versus a townhouse) and of course no association fees! Check it out - it is one of the better bargains in the Sterling area.

No HOA! Single Family Homes on .25 - .33 acre lots under $500,000! The down side is the homes are in various state of repairs. Some have been completely redone inside and out, others need a lot of work. Location wise it is close to 28, 7, Toll Rd., tons of shopping and restuarants.
