SW DC/ Waterfront (Submitted by MJB)
The neighborhood is allegedly improving, but it is still underserved by retail/dining. However, it is one of the more affordable neighborhoods in the city considering the fact that it is also fairly safe. It is also close to transit and close to other neighborhoods with more going on (Capitol Hill, Penn Quarter). It has a lot of potential, and hopefully government plans for the revitalization of the SW Waterfront and the eventual construction of the baseball stadium will help it realize its potential.

Great neighborhood. Walking distance to the national museums on the mall. Metro station centrally located within a block or two of most homes. Supermarket and drugstore at the metro station. Access to several highways within 3-5 minutes. Will be walking distance to the new baseball stadium. Mature trees line the streets, lots of townhouses and 8-story apartment houses. Downside, not many restaurants and other services besides the supermarket and pharmacy are here right now. And most important, the public school system is in terrible shape. But if you don't have school age kids this is a wonderful place to live.
